Bessemer City lineman signs with Averett

Bessemer City senior Blake Hiott signed a national letter of intent to play football at Averett University in Danville, Va.

The team’s offensive line captain and a two-year starter, Hiott earned a spot on the 2009 All-Gazette second team after tallying 10 pancake blocks. After three years at center and long snapper for Bessemer City, the 6-foot-2, 245-pound Hiott will switch positions to play fullback or linebacker with a possibility of seeing time at center and long snapper.

Hiott, a National Technical Honor Society student, plans to major in criminal justice and sociology on his way to an FBI career.
