GASTONIA - Jheranie Boyd apparently doesn't want to attend school too far from home.

The star Ashbrook High School receiver on Saturday narrowed his list of favorite colleges to five - and they're all in the Southeast.

When signing day arrives, Boyd says he will ink with Auburn, Clemson, Florida, N.C. State or North Carolina. Boyd has received more than 30 scholarship offers from Division I schools nationwide.

Florida State, Illinois, Missouri, Oregon, Southern California missed the latest cut after making Boyd's top 10 last month.

"(Narrowing the list) helps me make the recruiting process is not so crazy," said Boyd, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior. "I can stay focused o my school work and the recruiting process."

Boyd, who originally planned to announce his choice on the first day of the signing period Feb. 4, said his decision might come as early as Oct. 10 at Ashbrook's highly anticipated home game against South Point.

Boyd likes his top five schools for various reasons. The offenses at Florida and Auburn appealed to him, especially considering Ashbrook installed Auburn's offense this season. He said Clemson has the best talent in the ACC and that he likes N.C. State freshman quarterback Mike Glennon. North Carolina's communications program appealed to Boyd because he wants to pursue a broadcast career.
