Local sports roundup: Forestview, East Gaston girls win big on Friday
Varsity softball
Forestview 13, Ashbrook 1 (5 inn.) — Whitney Jarrett struck out seven, allowed eight hits and no walks as the Jags (9-12, 4-8) won. Mary Cloninger had two hits, including a triple while Bailey Stowe (two hits) and Jessica Smith (one hit, two walks) also paced the Forestview offense. For Ashbrook (1-21, 0-12), Alexis Wallace (three hits) and Kelsey Carithers (two hits) stood out on offense.
East Gaston 15, Waddell 0 (3 inn.) — Olivia Eudy no-hit Waddell, striking out eight batters as the Warriors finished their conference season undefeated. Hayley Black (2-for-2), Megan Soots (3-for-3) and Macie Kinley (2-for-3) led the Warriors (16-2). East Gaston plays in a tournament at West Meck (Olympic) next Wednesday.

Cramerton Christian 8, Neuse Christian School 0 — The Crusaders (9-2) advanced Friday to the 2A N.C. Christian Schools Association championship game today at noon against Hickory Christian on the Crusaders’ home field. Rebekah Raab (three goals), Heather Engle (two goals), Hannah Shore (two goals) and Alayna Jenkins (one goal) scored for Cramerton Christian. Vitalia Kiser had the shutout in goal.

East Gaston 19, Waddell 1 (4 inn.) — Ethan Frazier got the East Gaston (11-10, 7-5) win from the mound, allowing three hits while striking out seven on Friday. Tyler Persinger (3-for-4), J.P. Wilder (two hits) and Kevin Conn (two hits) led the offense.
Tennis
Statesville Christian 5, Gaston Day School 4 — The Gaston Day team leaves Thursday for the NCISAA 2A Division tournament. Fourteen teams will vie for the state title. Matches start Friday at Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington.

North Gaston 5, Kings Mountain 3 — Jody Baker (two hits, two RBIs) and Garrett Lowery (two hits) led North Gaston. Marcus Broadway got the win for the Wildcats, who finished the season at 8-4.
Middle school baseball
Bessemer City 17, York Chester 2 —Hunter Stinette (three hits), Logan Stevens (two hits), Demetrius Adams (two hits), Tyler Swift (two hits) and Jacob Fain (two hits) led Bessemer City at the plate. Andrew Smith had York Chester’s lone hit. Stevens picked up the win, striking out seven. Fain also saw action on the mound. Bessemer City (4-5) faces Holbrook on Monday.
Cramerton 10, Southwest 0 — Cole Poole (three hits) and Colton Rouse (two hits) led Cramerton at the plate. Ethan Reep got the win for Cramerton, striking out seven and yielding just one hit. Cramerton (8-1) travels to W.C. Friday on Monday .
Middle school soccer
Cramerton 1, Southwest 0 — Lauren McLamb scored Cramerton’s lone goal on an assist from Marissa Jackson. Haley Stewart had the shutout in goal. Cramerton (5-4) takes on W.C. Friday on Monday.
Holbrook 3, Grier 0 — Holbrook improved to 7-2. Maggie Rankin (two goals) and Ashlyn Abernathy (one goal) scored for the Lions, while Conner McCuen dished out one assist and Reilly Matthews added one assist. Madison Armstrong had the shutout in goal.
