Two local male athletes win regional track titles
Forestview’s Dominique Breedlove and South Point’s Justus Watkins took home gold medals from Saturday’s 3A West track and field championships.
Breedlove won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.74 seconds and also qualified for the state meet by finishing third in the 110-meter hurdles.
South Point’s Justus Watkins placed first in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 2.75 inches.
The duo joined four Gaston County females and one relay team in winning regional titles: North Gaston’s Maleena Reid (100 and 200 meters), Ashbrook’s Destinie Sykes (300 hurdles), Forestview’s Tatyana Brewton (100 hurdles),
Forestview’s Catherine Crawford (400 meters) and Forestview’s 400-meter relay team.
Sixteen individuals and 11 relay teams from Gaston County qualified for Friday’s state championship meet in Greensboro. The top four from each event qualify.
