Cleveland County volleyball roundup

FOREST CITY — Kings Mountain locked up the Southwestern Conference’s top 3A spot for the state playoffs after a three-game sweep over East Rutherford Tuesday.

Match scores were 25-7, 25-11, 25-10.

Chasiti Falls had four aces and five digs for the Mountaineers (19-3, 13-0 SWC 2A/3A), while Brooke Avery dished out 13 assists and Kristen Batcheler provided 10 kills.

Kings Mountain hosts R-S Central Thursday.

Chargers sweep East Gaston

MOUNT HOLLY — Crest’s Erin McWhirter dished out 17 assists and was 14-of-14 on serves with two aces as the Chargers remained unbeaten in Big South 3A/4A Conference play with a victory over East Gaston.

Crest’s Jasmine Thurman posted six kills with two aces and two blocks, while Lindsay Ellis added eight kills.

The Chargers (15-4, 11-0 Big South) host South Point Thursday.

Burns cruises past Trojans

HENRIETTA — Burns defeated Chase, 25-16, 25-19, 25-7 in Southwestern 2A/3A Conference action.

Kelsey Alcide posted five kills for the Bulldogs (10-9, 7-6 SWC), while Lindsay Ramsey dished out six assists. Burns served up six aces on the match.

The Bulldogs host East Rutherford Thursday.
