Ashbrook duo spent after 4A state track meet
GREENSBORO - Ashbrook juniors Jheranie Boyd and Justin Crawford staggered off the track trying to catch their breath after a long, grueling day.
They didn't win any gold medals at the 4A state track and field championships but they were pretty sure they'd sleep well when they arrived home.
After all, they did combine to run 12 races, including the preliminaries.
Boyd placed seventh in the 100 and 200 meters with times of 10.84 and 22.02 seconds, respectively, and took eighth in the 400 with a time of 50.77. Crawford placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with his best fully automated time of the season, 14.03 seconds. They also joined Willie Kennedy and Jordan McKoy on Ashbrook's 1,600-meter relay team, which placed 11th with its best time of the year, 3:26.54.
East Gaston sophomore La'Creesha Gore turned in Gaston County's best showing at the meet, placing third in the 200 meters with a time of 24.69. She also took sixth in the 100 meters, crossing the line in 12.01 seconds.
Ashbrook senior Jessica Sanders placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 9 inches.
