Ashbrook’s Boyd down to top 15 school choices
Comments 0 | Recommend 0GASTONIA - It's rare around here for a high school football player to receive 15 scholarship offers.
Jheranie Boyd has so many, he had to narrow them down to 15.
The Ashbrook wide receiver pared down his list of 32 scholarship offers, hoping to ease the grueling recruiting process.
"I just tried to cut it in half so I wouldn't be crazy calling all these other coaches," Boyd said.
Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, N.C. State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, South Carolina, Southern California and Virginia Tech made Boyd's top 15 list. All but Southern Cal have offered scholarships to Boyd, but he expects the Trojans to extend an offer when he visits the school.
The common thread among these schools?
"They're good academically and they all give me a chance to play as a true freshman," Boyd said.
"I just wanted to narrow it down to the coaches I wanted to focus on. And it came down to coaches I have the best relationship with."
Boyd, a 6-foot-3, 185-pounder and rising senior, plans to settle on a top 10 by the end of June and pick seven to eight finalists by the start of football season. He's still intent on announcing his decision on National Signing Day Feb. 4. He hasn't scheduled any of his five
official visits but plans to spend one of them at Southern Cal.
Boyd has been lifting weights and running to prepare for his senior season. Ashbrook starts voluntary practice June 23. Last season, he led the Big South 3A/4A Conference with 47 catches for 1,151 yards and 11 touchdowns.
