(9) Hunter Huss 70, (8) St. Stephens 56 — Jordy Anderson scored a season-high 18 as Hunter Huss coasted to a road win Monday in the first round of the 3A state playoffs. Jeremiah Hunter scored 15 and Jaelan Kennedy 14 for Hunter Huss (16-10), which will visit top-seeded Freedom in the second round on Wednesday. The Huskies also got a boost from Dre McDowell, who went 6-for-6 from the field in the second half for 12 of his 13 points.
(11) Ashbrook 76, (6) Asheville 67 — Antonio Blalock (25 points, 7 rebounds), Grant Stafford (20 points, 13 rebounds), Delshon Leach (11 points) and Jayquan Mackey (11 points, 4 assists, 3 steals) led Ashbrook (17-8) to a 3A West road win in the first round of the playoffs. The Green Wave will be at home against No. 14 seed R-S Central in Wednesday’s second round.
(1) Freedom 86, (16) South Point 48 — Lashae Walls led the Red Raiders with 10 points as South Point finished its season at 14-10. Taylor Williams, coming off a sprained ankle in Friday’s Big South 3A Conference tournament championship game against Hunter Huss, scored eight points.
(6) East Lincoln 66, (11) Piedmont 60 — Antwaine McLean scored a game-high 22 points with help from Tyler Brock (14 points) and Marcus McDowell (12 points) as East Lincoln (13-14) advanced in the 2A Midwest bracket. East Lincoln has won nine of its last 11 games and will either host the Thomasville or travel to Lexington on Wednesday.
(7) Salisbury 63, (10) North Lincoln 47 — Tied at the half and down five entering the fourth quarter, North Lincoln couldn’t hold on for a first-round upset in the 2A Midwest bracket. Gray Brotherton scored 12 while Travis Cannon and Christian Ramos added eight points each for the Knights (15-10).
(6) Mitchell 66, (11) Cherryville 61 — Spencer Stamey scored 14 and Brandon Warren 13 for Cherryville (12-14) in a first-round 1A West game Monday.
(2) Hendersonville 84, (15) Bessemer City 71 — Justin Wright scored 22 and Brad James added 16 points for Bessemer City in a first-round road loss in the 1A state playoffs. The Yellow Jackets (10-14) led 32-31 at the half but couldn’t hold on to hand Hendersonville (26-0) its first loss.

(7) Ardrey Kell 83, (10) East Gaston 28 — East Gaston ended its season at 10-15.
(11) Ashbrook 58, (6) Franklin 55 — Ashbrook (11-13) picked up a road win in the 3A West to set up a rematch with Forestview on Wednesday.
(1) Hickory 74, (16) South Point 48 — Ashley Mull scored 15 points to lead the Red Raiders in a losing effort. South Point finished the season at 12-11.
(5) North Lincoln 80, (12) Owen 50 — The Southern Piedmont 1A/2A Conference champs advanced to a second-round 2A West game Wednesday at Pisgah.
(3) Newton-Conover 82, (14) West Lincoln 25 — Erica Webb scored nine to lead West Lincoln (9-16) in a first-round 2A loss Monday.
(8) Highlands 71, (9) Cherryville 62 — Cherryville ended its season at 14-12.
