Local sports roundup: East Gaston, South Point fare well in two-team meet

East Gaston 88, South Point 57 — On Friday, John Floyd (5-6) won the high jump, Charlest Johnson (38-4) triple jump, Tyler Goins 110m hurdles (19.26), Tyler Guffey (discus, 127), Dylan Coley (1600m, 1:16 and 3,200m run, 11:39) and Casey Reid (300m hurdles, 46.20) won their events.
For South Point, Brett Walden (shotput, 42-6), Justice Watkins (long jump, 20-9½, 100m, 11.13, 200m, 23.62), Ben Propst (pole vault, 9, 800m, 2.19) and Joey Thomas (400m, 56.33) won their events. South Point’s Ben Propst, Nathan Propst, Brandon Parra and Brandon Howard won the 3,200-meter relay (9:35.58).
East Gaston girls 83, South Point 57 — On Friday, LaCreesha Gore won three events: long jump (1-11.5), shot put (36.1) and 100m dash (12.38) while Carly Kluttz won triple jump (25.4) and high jump (4-4) events. Sarah Lisi won discus (70), 100 hurdles Demisha Reese (20.82), Jessica Foster (200 meter, 30.14), Katie James (800m, 3:12) and Amde Vencill (1600m, 7:00).
East Gaston faces Kings Mountain, Ashbrook, Bessemer city, Cherryville and Highland Tech on Thursday. For South Point, Kim Wick (pole vault, 300m hurdles) and Hanks (3,200m) won in individual events while South Point won in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter relays.
