Forestview dominates All-Big South soccer team

Forestview dominated the regular season, then ruled the postseason awards.

The Jaguars swept the top Big South 3A/4A Conference soccer honors after rolling through the league with a 12-0 record.

Senior midfielder Taylor Hendrick was voted player of the year by the league's head coaches and senior teammate Adam Henry was voted keeper of the year. Jaguars coach David Shearer was named coach of the year by his peers.

Hendrick scored 14 goals and recorded a team-high 15 assists, including one Forestview's 3-2 season-ending loss to Charlotte Catholic in the third round of the 3A state playoffs.

"I had a good feeling that Taylor was going to have a good year because he really dedicated himself by going to three soccer camps this summer," Shearer said.

Henry logged 114 saves in goal and tallied 10 shutouts. He wasn't Shearer's biggest risk taker over the years, but he was a threat in other ways.

"He was probably most dangerous with his feet with punts and goal kicks," Shearer said. "He could kick it a mile."

Forestview led the 24-player all-conference team with seven selections. Ashbrook, East Gaston and Hunter Huss had four selections each after finishing second, third and fourth, respectively.

Shearer led Forestview to its fourth consecutive conference title and sixth in seven years. The Jaguars finished 19-3-1 after falling to Catholic, which will play for the 3A state title this weekend.
