The Crest Lady Chargers moved one step closer to the Big South 3A/4A Conference title with a 3-0 win against visiting Hunter Huss Thursday afternoon at Ed Peeler Gymnasium .

Records: Crest took the contest improving to 10-0 in league play and 13-4 overall.

What’s next: Crest will be competing in a tri-match at KM Saturday. They resume conference action Tuesday at East Gaston.

Game Scores: 25-9, 25-19, 25-13

Chargers dominate: Junior Cheyenne Cash displayed a variety of skills at the net, both left- and right-handed, to provide the scoring punch. Her offense along with help from captain Erin McWhirter helped the Chargers triumph over the Huskies.

The Chargers had a nine-point rally to end game one, but as often is the case, they let up in game two. Some unforced errors allowed the Huskies to keep the second game close.

After a sluggish second game from the Chargers, Coach Jamie Wilson had them firing on all cylinders to start game three. Crest jumped out to a 9-0 lead in game three and never looked back, eventually winning 25-13.

Statistics: Cash had 14 kills with three blocks and three digs. She also went 14-fof-14 at the service line. Erin McWhirter supplied 17 assists and six kills. She also turned in a 21-for-21 service game with seven aces.

The Huskies were led by six kills and three blocks by senior Mary Moore.

From the Coach: “We played well. We tend to ease up in the second game; I would like us to keep the intensity up throughout. We have played good in conference, coming off a big win against North Gaston, but I would like to see us be more dominating against non-conference opponents,” Crest coach Jamie Wilson said.

“Crest is by far the toughest team in our conference, they play at a higher level than everyone else,” said Hunter Huss coach Kristy Cochran.
