Fumbles plague Huss in football jamboree

Some last-minute adjustments up front could explain the four or five Hunter Huss fumbles in its 21-8 loss to Providence Day in Saturday's Gaston County FCA Football Jamboree.

Huss coach Steve Gardner blamed bad snaps on the absence of couple of key linemen and Providence Day took advantage of good field position for a 21-8 win.

"I'm a little disappointed in the turnovers," Gardner said. "But we thought we moved the ball better than we did Wednesday against West Charlotte."

And the Huss defense continued a solid preseason with an array of big plays against a Providence Day team that finished 7-5 last season.

"Defense played good," Gardner said. "There were mistakes here and there but they really played good. It's been a pleasant surprise."

The Huskies have extra time to get ready for their opener. They face Burns in the Cleveland County Jamboree on Friday before opening the regular season the following week at home against Kings Mountain.
