Varsity softball

South Point 13, Hunter Huss 1 (five innings) — Jordan Wilson (three hits, three RBIs), Taylor Mahaffey (two hits) amd Alison Yarbrough (two hits) led South Point (5-2, 2-0 Big South 3A) at the plate. Mahaffey tossed a one-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks. Taylor Jordan slugged a solo home run in the third inning for Hunter Huss. The Red Raiders host Vance on Monday in a non-conference game.

North Gaston 16, Ashbrook 0 (four innings) — Sidney Mitchell struck out eight of 12 batters, while North Gaston pounded out 16 hits. North Gaston (3-3, 1-1) hosts Forestview on Tuesday.

Lincoln Charter 15, North Hills Christian 4 (Thursday) — Taylor Wingate got her first win allowing four hits in the Lincoln Charter(7-0, 2-0) win. Wingate also went 3-3 at the plate with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs. Haley Meza was 3-3 with a triple and 3 RBIs. Kayleigh Mitchell added a double with 3 RBIs. Jada Johnson, Victoria Morgan and Sarah Kenley also contributed with RBIs.

 

Varsity baseball

Ashbrook 2, North Gaston 1 (Friday) — C.J. Long struck out 11 and allowed just two hits in six innings of work to get the win for Ashbrook (1-2, 1-0 Big South 3A). Jimmy Zukhdeo supplied a two-run game-winning single in the seventh. Erik Quinn, Justin Shempert and Austin Buchanon had one hit each for the Green Wave, who host Clover on Monday. Phillip Potter smacked a third-inning home run for North Gaston.

East Gaston 13, Garinger 1 (six innings) — Junior left-hander Brandon Bates (1-1) threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in picking up the victory. Leading the way at the plate was Justin Williams, who was three for four with three doubles and four RBIs, and Ethan Frazier, who was three for four with two doubles and three RBIs. East Gaston (4-1, 2-0 MEGA 7) will play Charlotte Catholic on Tuesday at Waddell High School.

South Point 24, Hunter Huss 1 (five innings) — Dariel Rogers (four hits), Derek Treffinger (three hits, grand slam, five RBIs) and Chris Harkey (three hits, three RBIs) led South Point (6-1, 2-0 Big South 3A). Harkey got the win, tossing all five innings and giving up one run and one hit with 10 strikeouts. Zac Badger slugged a home run in the second inning for the Huskies. South Point takes on Ashbrook on Tuesday.

 

JV baseball

North Gaston 7, Ashbrook 1 — Marcus Broadway and Drake Wall had three hits each or North Gaston, while Micah Smith added two hits. Garrett Lowery collected the win for the Wildcats (1-1 Big South 3A), who host Forestview on Tuesday.

 

Varsity soccer

Statesville 3, Kings Mountain 1 — The Statesville High varsity soccer team defeated the visiting Kings Mountain Lady Mountaineers Friday night, 3-1. Meagen Reynolds had the lone goal for Kings Mountain (5-2) off a Megan Loftin assist. The Kings Mountain teams play host to Big South Conference foe Hunter Huss on Monday.

Statesville Christian 2, Gaston Day 0 — The Spartans take on Spartanburg Christian at USC Upstate on Tuesday.

Oakbrook Prep 3, Gaston Day School 1 (Thursday) — Gaston Day’s lone goal was scored by Rosemary Dunning and assisted by Lauren Toole.

 

Boys tennis

East Gaston 5, Lincolnton 4 (Thursday) — The Warriors defeated Lincolnton in non-conference action.

 

Girls track and field

Forestview 95, East Lincoln 64, Hunter Huss 54, South Point 48 — Forestview won a four-team meet Thursday at South Point.

Kings Mountain 81, Ashbrook 75, North Gaston 28 — The Kings Mountain High girls track and field team kicked off their season on Thursday with a victory over Ashbrook and North Gaston. KM event winners included Britnee Roberts (long jump), Aneisy Cardo (pole vault) and Alyssa White (800 meters, 1600 meters). The 4x100 relay team of Akua Adams, Keyatta Leach, D’Ajsha Adams, and Roberts also won, as did the 4x200 squad of Akua and D’Ajsha Adams, Roberts and Lauresa Keith. The Lady Mountaineers host Big South 3A foes Forestview and South Point on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
