Kings Mountain beats Crest in three straight

Kings Mountain took on Crest High School in a non-conference volleyball match Monday night. The Mountaineers were victorious behind the strong play of senior Marshia Meeks and junior Chasiti Falls. The match played at Ed Peeler Gymnasium, was won by Kings Mountain 3-0.
Game scores: 25-16, 25-23, 25-19
The records: Kings Mountain moves to 9-2 on the year, and Crest falls to 12-4.
What’s next: Both teams return to conference play on Tuesday, Mountaineers against Shelby (8-4) at home, and the Chargers travel to face South Point
Second game: The second game provided the excitement as Crest erased a five-point deficit, to get within one late. The score was 23-24 as Crest had their best opportunity of the evening.
However, the veteran Mountaineer team regrouped to take the game 25-23, and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Stat leaders: Chargers were led by junior Cheyenne Cash with nine kills, and Lou Bankhead was perfect in her 10 serve attempts. Jordan Doty collected three blocks for the Chargers in the losing effort.
For Kings Mountain, senior Marshia Meeks notched 11 kills, while Chasiti Falls had 13 assists.
From the coaches: “We played well. This was a statement game. Crest is very good at the net, yet we found a way to get kills in against them. I like where we stand as of today.” Kings Mountain coach Brian Grant said.
“We didn’t play as a team, we didn’t cover our hitters, and we missed too many serves. We’ve still got a lot to improve on, including our defense.” said Charger coach Jamie Wilson.
JV game: The Mountaineers won the earlier contest 2-0 by scores of 25-20, 25-10.
