Roberts hits 1,000, Forestview girls roll

Senior Brittnee Roberts scored 20, including her 1,000th career point, to help Forestview to an 84-19 home rout of Hunter Huss on Tuesday.

Roberts, who played at Kings Mountain as a freshman and sophomore, needed 17 to reach the milestone entering the game. The 5-foot-7 guard got there at the 2:32 mark of the third quarter after she stole the ball and drove the court for an uncontested layup.

“It’s good, actually,” Roberts said of the milestone. “I was looking forward to it.”

Lauren Smith also scored 20 while Bre Armstrong had 14 points and six steals for the Jaguars (13-2, 5-0), who can complete an undefeated run through the first half of the Big South 3A Conference schedule Friday at Kings Mountain.

Phierica Gardin added 10 points and six steals while freshman backup point guard Nikkyana McCaskill dished five assists to go with her eight points for Forestview, which substituted early and often against the young and struggling Huskies (0-13, 0-5).

Forestview scored the game’s first 33 points before Jalaah Crosby’s 3-pointer finally put Hunter Huss on the scoreboard at the 4:06 mark of the second quarter. The Jaguars forced 18 turnovers during the 33-0 scoring spurt and turned many of them into easy layups.

Crosby finished with eight points to lead Hunter Huss, which plays host to Ashbrook on Friday.
