Comments 0 | Recommend 0South Point 1, R-S Central 0 —Colby Stephens scored South Point’s lone goal with just under 10 minutes left in a first-round 3A state playoff victory Wednesday. Joseph Carswell had the shutout in goal and provided two key saves to secure the upset over the South Mountain Athletic Conference No. 1 seed. South Point (9-10-2) will travel to take on East Henderson in the second round Saturday.
Forestview 3, Tuscola 2 —After watching its streak of four straight Big South Conference titles come to an end, Forestview isn’t done yet. The Jaguars, the third-seed out of the Big South, went on the road and upset Appalachian Athletic No. 1 seed Tuscola in the first-round of the 3A state playoffs Wednesday.
Forestview (13-8) now gets a second-round home game Saturday against Northwestern No. 3 Fred T. Foard (14-7-1), a 1-0 overtime winner over Patton, the South Mountain No. 2 seed.
St. Stephens 3, Hunter Huss 0 — Hunter Huss, the Big South 3A Conference runner-up, ended its season at 13-8 after a first-round playoff loss despite 17 saves in goal by Erik Cole.
Albemarle 3, Highland Tech 1 — Highland Tech, the top 1A seed out of the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A Conference, finished with a 5-10 record. Albemarle (16-4), which entered the playoffs with a wild card berth, takes on Hayesville in the second round.
East Lincoln 2, Bandys 0 — The Southern Piedmont 1A/2A Conference champions coasted to a first-round 2A win over the Catawba Valley No. 5 seed. The Mustangs (17-6-1) will play host to Chase or East Davidson on Saturday.
Lincolnton 1, West Stanly 0 — The Southern Piedmont Conference No. 2 seed edged the Rocky River No. 3 in the first round of the 2A playoffs. Lincolnton (13-3) would travel to Cuthbertson or play host to Lexington in the second round.
West Davidson 3, North Lincoln 0 — North Lincoln ended its season at 13-8-1.
