Crest leads All-Big South baseball team

Big South 3A Conference champion Crest swept all-league baseball honors announced Monday.

The Chargers’ Julian Ridings was selected player of the year and Steven Hodge was named coach of the year in voting by the league’s head coaches.

Ridings and Hodge led Crest to an 11-1 record in the Big South as the Chargers led the final conference standings by two games over South Point.

Crest and South Point each placed five on the 21-player all-conference team. Crest’s Sterling Cole, Jacob Tisdale, Landon Elks and Anthony Stiles joined Ridings on the team.

South Point’s selections were pitchers Chris Harkey and Jeffrey Springs, infielders Ryan Huneycutt and Jordan Edgerton and utility player Weston Lawing.

Third-place North Gaston had four all-conference picks: pitcher Henry Rundio, catcher Justin Parker, infielder Zade Denton and outfielder Joseph Laye. Fourth-place Forestview had two: Reilly Hovis as an infielder and Jonathan White as a utility player.

For Kings Mountain, catcher Dylan Smith, infielder Cody Austin and outfielder Brian Brown made the team. Ashbrook outfielder Austin Scott and Hunter Huss outfielder Justin Blair also earned all-conference honors.
