Two local soccer players earn all-state honors

Forestview midfielder Taylor Hendrick and Highland Tech goalkeeper Brendon Withers were named to their respective all-state teams by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association.

Hendrick, the Big South 3A/4A Conference player of the year, made the 26-player Public 3A all-state team. The senior scored 14 goals and assisted 15 this past season, helping Forestview to a 19-3-1 record. He becomes Forestview's eighth all-state soccer selection according to the school's Web Site.

Withers, a senior, made the Public 1A all-state team. He was one of 11 players to make the squad.

Hendrick and Withers led a list of 27 local athletes who earned all-region honors (see list).

Losing to the best

Forestview's soccer team knew its side of the state playoff bracket was stacked. Now the Jaguars can prove it.

Charlotte Catholic (24-1-1), which eliminated Forestview in the third round, won the 3A state championship Sunday, beating Jacksonville 1-0. The Cougars had defeated Forestview 3-2 three rounds earlier.
