2010 All-Gazette baseball team

FIRST TEAM

 

Drew Belk

North Lincoln, Sr.

Infielder/pitcher

Pitched a 7-1 record with one save and 2.74 ERA, leading Knights to conference championship. Struck out 68 batters in 55 innings. Batted .333 with 14 RBIs.

 

Trey Drewery

West Lincoln, Sr.

Pitcher/third base

Batted .403 with four home runs, eight doubles and 19 RBIs. Played entire season needing Tommy John surgery. Slugging percentage of .701.

 

Jordan Edgerton

South Point, Jr.

Third base/pitcher

Team MVP batted .407 with two home runs and 16 RBIs, helping Red Raiders finish second in the Big South 3A Conference.

 

Parker Hills

East Lincoln, Jr.

Pitcher/catcher

Southern Piedmont 1A/2A Conference player of the year went 7-4 on the mound with one save and 2.80 ERA. Batted .382 and tied for second in area with five home runs.

 

Reilly Hovis

Forestview, So.

Pitcher/shortstop

Only Big South Conference pitcher to beat league champion Crest. Led team in batting average (.354), home runs (four) and RBIs (19).

 

Weston Lawing

South Point, Sr.

Designated hitter

Led team in batting average (.473), home runs (three) and RBIs (26), leading South Point to second-place finish in conference.

 

Blake Mosteller

Cherryville, Jr.

Pitcher/catcher

Team MVP led Ironmen at the plate with a .368 batting average and also pitched six saves. Struck out 58 batters in 41 innings.

 

Justin Parker

North Gaston, Sr.

Catcher

Team MVP led Wildcats in batting (.431) and RBIs (26). Also hit two home runs and nine doubles, helping team to third-place conference finish.

 

Henry Rundio

North Gaston, Jr.

Pitcher/second base

Gazette player of the year accounted for nine of team’s 14 wins on the mound. Struck out 78 batters while logging 60 innings. At the plate, batted .306 with two home runs and 19 RBIs.

 

Jeffrey Springs

South Point, Jr.

Pitcher/first base

Led the area with 93 strikeouts in 60 innings and pitched first-round playoff win. Finished with 6-2 record and 1.63 ERA.

 

Seth Weekley

Bessemer City, Jr.

Pitcher/first base

Batted .468 with 10 RBIs and excelled on the mound, pitching both of team’s playoff wins.

 

J.P. Wilder

East Gaston, Sr.

Shortstop

Team MVP batted .389 with one home run and 14 RBIs. Stole nine bases and had .542 slugging percentage, helping team to second round of playoffs.

Ranked first or second on team in eight offensive categories. Batted .412 with two home runs and 19 RBIs.

 

Ryan Doty

Gaston Christian, Sr.

Batted .500 with three home runs and seven RBIs.

 

Chris Harkey

South Point, Sr.

Pitcher/outfielder

Tied for area lead with nine pitching wins. Finished with 9-1 record with 1.90 ERA.

 

Dylan Hastings

Cherryville, Jr.

Pitcher/infielder

Won team’s best pitcher award after finishing with 7-2 record and 2.29 ERA. Also slugged team-high five home runs.

 

Hayden Hendry

Clover, Jr.

Outfielder

Batted .430 with four home runs and 23 RBIs.

 

Austin Scott

Centerfield

Led team with .328 batting average, 16 RBIs and eight stolen bases.

 

Byron Sherrill

North Lincoln, Sr.

Batted .339 with six doubles and pitched 6-2 record for conference champions.

Led team with .451 batting average and 24 RBIs and pitched two wins.
