2A state track: Lincolnton's Thompson finishes runner-up
GREENSBORO — Lincolnton’s Rashad Thompson claimed a silver medal at Saturday’s 2A state track and field championships, taking second place in the 400 meters with a time of 21.75 seconds.
Thompson also ran a leg for the Wolves’ seventh-place 400-meter relay team, helping Lincolnton to a 12th-place finish in the team standings at N.C. A&T State University.
The East Lincoln boys, who won last week’s 2A West regional, tied for 30th in the team standings. The Mustangs’ highest finish was third place by its 1600-meter relay team of Marcus McDowell, Josh Krehnbrink, Pat Rendleman and Blake Prince.
East Lincoln’s Preston Perry took seventh in the triple jump and 11th in the long jump. Lincolnton’s Travis Franklin placed fourth in the 3,200 meters.
On the girls’ side, East Lincoln’s Lindsy Wright placed fourth in the shot put and 12th in the discus, North Lincoln’s Jill Baxter tied for fourth in the high jump, and Lincolnton’s Grace Turner placed fifth in the 3,200 meters.
